You Can With Color
Color, a term learned from an early age, yet the meaning never fully understood. Until now. Color, an element in every aspect of our life. Color, a way describes beyond words. A vital element in design.
This semester, learning about color and the way that it can so easily describe and represent things has been truly opened my eyes to so many things. Expressing myself and life through color has always been a part of my personality, subconsciously. However, now learning the formalities of it, I feel as though it is a skill I will apply in every aspect of my personal and professional life.
When we first began learning about this topic in class, I began to reminisce on discussing literary elements in past literature classes and how color is one used to symbolize so many different meanings. That is now so applicable to the real world in branding and logo design. Realizing how much color can bring to a design and life has been so much fun and finding ways to implement meaningful color representation is a fun and unique task.
This is my favorite design skill I have gotten to work on throughout the semester because of how much I, as a person, value color. In every aspect of my life, from the clothes I am wearing to the sign hanging in my room, has color, I am just a naturally colorful person, so when honing in on this design skill, I really feel like I took the chance to be creative and ran with it.
Researching colors and the meaning behind them was an exciting and interesting task. I was again reminded of the representation color has in literature and how that is applicable to everyday life. I knew, when creating my logo, I wanted to use colors that represented who I am both professionally and personally.
After much research and discovery, I settled on a few variations of the color pink. Pink represents many things but at the fore front I represents femininity, compassion, playfulness, warmth, and intuition. It also represents acceptance, joy, and nurture. All of these are values that I feel a represent and make me who I am both my professional and personal lives.
Additionally, I was considering using the color orange to also be a color aspect in my logo. After researching I discovered that orange represents optimism, energy, and spontaneity. It also represents creativity, impatience, and encouragement. A lot of these values also resonate with me, but more in my personal life than professional. That is why I ultimately decided to stick with just pink as my logo color.
With all that being said, I truly feel like this is a new design skill I have enjoyed learning and will use in every aspect of my life. My eyes have been open to new meanings and reasonings behind why major companies use the colors that they do. While it is a simple design skill, it is a vital one to have.
